Wild horses on Burrington Combe

Burrington village sits in the foothills of the Mendips, a designated area of 'outstanding natural beauty'.

In Burrington Coombe there is the cleft where the Reverend Toplady sheltered and wrote The Rock of Ages.

This is beautiful walking country where wild ponies roam freely. From the top of Black Down, the highest point on Mendip, you can see five counties. Cheddar Gorge is an appetite-building 6mile hike. And within casting distance there are the famous trout lakes of Blagdon and Chew.

Yet rural Burrington is only 10 minutes from Bristol International Airport, 30 minutes from Bristol and Bath and 20 minutes from the cathedral city of Wells.

Locally there are plenty of village pubs that serve food. The Plume of Feathers in Rickford is easy walking distance. Or you could stride it out to The Crown in Churchill and be rewarded with some of the finest beer in the country.
